AICNU- 2025

As we celebrating the AICNU 2025, Chief Dietitian Ms. Haritha Shyam is presenting About the To Evaluate The Malnutrition  Status Using GLIM Nutritional Assessment & Dysphagia in Rehabilitation Centre. “As we looked at dysphagia patients in the rehabilitation center, what we observed was quite striking. Using GLIM criteria, we found that nearly 70% of patients were severely malnourished, and more than half of them, about 57%, were struggling with dysphagia. When we assessed handgrip strength, around 75% showed weakness, which clearly reflects poor muscle function. We also noted the presence of bed sores in several patients, again pointing to compromised nutrition and mobility. And despite continuous monitoring, only 56% of these patients could actually achieve their nutrition goals. This really emphasizes how dysphagia directly worsens malnutrition and delays recovery. So, it becomes very important that we focus on early nutritional screening, individualized intervention, and a strong multidisciplinary approach for better patient outcomes.”
